05-31-2012 BROOKLYN,NY On Wednesday, May 30, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz and the Brooklyn Jewish Heritage Committee hosted the Brooklyn Jewish Heritage Night Salute to Israel ceremony and reception at Brooklyn Borough Hall. Earlier in the evening, BP Markowitz joined the Brooklyn Jewish Historical Initiative and the Brooklyn Historical Society to launch the first website dedicated to the history of Jewish Brooklynites (www.brooklynjewish.org). Special presentations were made to this year's event honorees: Shternie Raskin, director, Gan Menachem Kiddie Korner Preschool Rabbi Jack Meyer, director, Misaskin Hadassah, The Women's Zionist Organization of America, Inc.

31-05-2012 04:02 Israel will not have one of its own in the US Congress after Itamar Gelbman failed to force a run-off race against incumbent Joe Barton in the Republican primary of Texas's sixth Congressional district. With 83 percent of precincts reporting, Barton had won 63 percent of the vote. Barton will face off against a Democratic challenger on November 6.
