NEW YORK (JTA) More than half of American Jews have either witnessed or directly experienced anti-Semitism during the past five years, according to an Anti-Defamation League survey published Tuesday. The ADL also found that 63% of American Jews say they are less safe than they were a decade ago. The survey was conducted in January, just before the new coronavirus pandemic led to a shutdown of much of American public life, and after a fatal shooting at a Jersey City kosher supermarket and a fatal stabbing at a Hanukkah party, both in December, as well as a spate of attacks in Orthodox neighborhoods in Brooklyn

As Americans are staying home to stem the spread of the coronavirus, online searches for white supremacist content have increased, according to a London-based company that uses technology to disrupt violent extremism. In states that have had local stay-at-home orders in place for 10 or more days, there has been a 21% average increase in engagement with violent extremist content, Moonshot CVE said in a report released last week.
