This about-face has always followed a dip in polling numbers and appeared less motivated by ideology and more by expediency. Before the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, Netanyahu was an active participant in the right-wing campaign to delegitimize the commander-turned-politician who had signed the Oslo Accords.
