Condemnation trails NASS’ rejection of Diaspora voting bill – ICIR

CHAIRMAN of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation in Europe (NIDO-Europe) Bashir Obasekola has expressed disappointment at the failure of both chambers of the National Assembly to pass the Bill for an Act to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, to Provide for Diaspora Voting, and other related matters. Obasekola told The ICIR that it was unfortunate that lawmakers have not seen the need to improve on the current level of Diaspora engagement by making the necessary adjustment to the Constitution to bring the bill to light. This April, Chatham Baroque presents New York-based ensemble East of the River for the program Hamsa, featuring music from the geographic regions of Andalusia, North Africa, the Ottoman Empire, and the Sephardic diaspora. This program consists of songs and dances from liturgical and folk traditions as well as examples of classical instrumental music from the Ottoman court. These various types of music aren't built with Western musical conventions, but rather, use the system of microtonal melodic modes referred to as the Arabic maqam.
