The womens vocal ensemble Tapestry will present a concert on Saturday in Corrales.

Tapestry weaves medieval and contemporary music into haunting vibrations of both the holy and the erotic.

The Boston-based vocal ensemble will bring Hebrew, Sephardic, English and Latin interpretations of the Bibles Song of Songs to the Historic Old San Ysidro Church in Corrales on Saturday.

Tapestry will perform Song of Songs: Return to the Garden, a thematic musical rendition of various interpretations of the biblical book.

It can be looked on as an allegory and also as a love song, Cristi Catt, soprano, said in a telephone interview from Cambridge, Mass. Its a very evocative love song. Its fueled a lot of poets and composers.

Those variations have ranged from medieval chants to contemporary compositions, she added.

Tapestry leans toward thematic programming rather than specific periods of music, she explained. The approach offers more timeless and dramatic themes, she added.

Song of Songs is one of the most popular programs and recordings the group has produced. This latest version expands its reach into ancient Hebrew and Medieval Latin settings to Yiddish, Sephardic and Spanish songs and the instrumental music of the Ottoman Empire.

Tapestry formed in Boston nearly 20 years ago. Its three original members all studied classical music, eventually earning their masters degrees in medieval music at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge. Catt teaches at the New England Conservatory of Music. The women made their 1995 debut with a performance of composer Steve Reichs Tehillim at Bostons Jordan Hall. The Boston Globe termed it a knockout. Since then they have toured across the United States, with dates in both Europe and Canada.
