Toronto MP Michael Levitt is resigning his seat as a Liberal backbencher to become the president and CEO of the Canadian Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies after representing the riding of York Centre since 2015. For those of us serving in elected office, political life can be incredibly intense, and it often becomes all-encompassing, Levitt said in a note to his constituents. It hasnt been without consequence to those I love most, and while it is an incredible privilege to serve the people of York Centre, I know deep down that now is the time for me to put family first and come back home, both physically and mentally.

Its time to educate yourself and take action as anti-semitism continues to permeate pop culture, from British politics to Wileys troubling Twitter tirade Last week, Wiley took to social media to go on a two-day anti-semitic tirade, in which he compared Jewish people to the Klu Klux Klan, called them snakes and cowards, and enforced the age-old, discriminatory trope that they control wealth. The British MC also claimed Jewish people were at war with Black people, that they were responsible for the slave trade, and suggested they should hold some corn an expression meaning to be shot. On Saturday (July 25), as his rant came to an end, Wiley was dropped by his management, and received news that the Metropolitan Police were investigating his tweets

At a meeting on Monday of the Knesset Committee for Immigration, Absorption and Diaspora Affairs, participants bemoaned the condition of world Jewry. The discussion centered on the implementation of a plan approved earlier this month by the Israeli government to protect Jewish communities abroad from extinction. We are swimming against the current, said Diaspora Affairs Ministry Director-General Dvir Kahana, claiming that 80% of Jews outside of Israel live comfortably and feel no connection to their Judaism.Diaspora Affairs Minister Omer Yankelevitch concurred that large segments of our nation are moving away from their Jewish identity and from Israel, warning, We have to wake up before its too late.Aside from the fact that the discussion itself is as old as the hills, and that the plan involves education and outreach not exactly an innovative concept it comes on the heels of reports that the COVID-19 pandemic is spurring many Jews to consider immigrating to Israel

One of the architectural wonders of the world, the Hagia Sophia cathedral was conquered once before. It was converted into a mosque by its Ottoman conquerors; minarets were added, and its ancient Byzantine mosaics were whitewashed. More recently, it has functioned as a museum for decades
