More than 150000 Israelis have taken to the streets to protest against rises in the cost of living. The protests took place in six Israeli cities, as anger was directed to the government for not doing enough to help ordinary Israelis. Al Jazeera's Tom Ackerman reports from Jerusalem.

A stone altar from the 9th century BC was found in an archeological dig on Tel Tzafit, located in the southern coastal plain at a site identified with the biblical Philistine city of Gat. The altar is reminiscent of Jewish altars from the same period and sheds light on the cultural links between the two peoples, who fought each other for centuries.

Early Thursday morning Palestinians in Gaza fired a Qassamrocket at southern Israel. Residents along the Ashkelon coast woke up to theColor Red alert system warning them of the incoming rocket attack. The rocketexploded in an open area south of the city of Ashkelon.

Al Qaeda Leader: Urges Syrians Against US and Israel On July 27, Al-Qaeda leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, urged Syrian protesters to denounce the United States and Israel. "America, which co-operated with (Syrian President) Bashar al-Assad during his whole regime, claims today that it stands with you when it saw him floored by the earthquake of your fury," he said in the video posted on an Islamist website. In the video, he is seen in a white turban and robe and seated next to an assault rifle.
