Going back to school was a decision I made without much thought, to be honest (the program I am in is for a Master of Public Administration and a Master of Arts in Integrated Global Communications). My husband suggested it as a way to challenge myself and I figured why not. Perhaps it would help me at work.

In a wide-ranging interview by Alan Johnson, Michael Doran criticizes the failures of U.S. grand strategy since the end of the cold war, expounds upon his essay from the beginning of this year on the Trump administrations Middle East policy, and discusses Washingtons complex relations with Turkey and the Syrian Kurds. Doran also addresses the situation of Israel in historical perspective, comparing two competing American approaches to peacemaking that date back at least to the Eisenhower administration: The U.S

This week's Torah portion speaks about one of the tests Abraham the Patriarch went through on his journey after his destiny. The Lord makes Abraham a grandiose promise to become the father of many nations and says to Abraham: "Arise, walk through the land in its length and in its breadth, for I will give it unto thee." As part of the first test on his journey to inherit the land, Abraham looks for a burial plot for his deceased wife Sarah and discovers the yawning chasm between his vision and its realization.

The faux Labour anti-semitism problem has been a central feature in the fight of the conservative, pro-Israel establishment, against Jeremy Corbyns progressive (and pro-Palestinian) agenda, since he was elected to lead Labour in 2015. It culminated in an attack by the UK Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis this week, on the pages of The Times. The Im Tirtzu movement today announced launching a public campaign titled "Save democracy - restore trust in the justice system." The movement calls on the public to come to the mass demonstration in Tel Aviv tonight, emphasizing that this is a topic that must be especially close to the heart of religious Zionism. According to movement leader Yehuda Sharabani, "Religious Zionism should be the first to arrive to the rally today because it's the first to be harmed if a Leftist government is established here." Im Titrzu notes that the decision to campaign now is due to recent events related to the investigation and conduct of the justice system against Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu

The following is a guest post by Valeria Chazin, SSIs Board of Directors Chairwoman. The Hebrew phrase The generation which knew not Joseph is used to describe a younger generation who does not know the previous generation and its actions. The term borrows from the original verse inExodus 1:8, Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who knew not Joseph, and another example of a similar idea is Judges 2:10 describing a generation that did not know God or the work that he had done for Israel. Both instances discuss the lack of awareness of the past, later leading to negative consequences
