Universities Enabling the Hijacking of Free Speech When Jews are Involved – The Times of Israel

| November 26, 2019

In a country where multiculturalism has a reverent following and criticism of protected minorities has essentially been criminalized as hate speech, it is more than ironic that on some Canadian campuses radical students have taken it upon themselves to target one group, Jewish students, with a hatred that is nominally forbidden for any others. And with a recent incident that took place on November 20th, York University, in particular, has now revealed a troubling pattern of tolerating physical and emotional assaults by pro-Palestinian radicals against Jewish students and others who dare to demonstrate any support for Israel or question the tactics of Islamists in their efforts to destroy the Jewish state. Herut Canada, a Zionist movement dedicated to social justice, the unity of the Jewish people, and the territorial integrity of the Land of Israel, was sponsoring an on-campus event featuring Reservists on Duty, former IDF soldiers who would be discussing BDS and the particular challenges facing the IDF in its interaction with terrorism

As a Jew… | Rachel Wahba – The Times of Israel

| November 24, 2019

When I have to leave my synagogue because its progressive agenda includes distancing from Israel, I fear feelingsomething I thought I was done with once I got to the United States. Unlike my parents I never knew what it felt to belong to a country, to have a native language, a national anthem, a passport

How far we’ve come, and how much more we have left to do – The Times of Israel

| November 24, 2019

So much has already been said about this weeks challenging situations at three of Canadas largest universities the University of Toronto, McGill University and York University that I find myself struggling to say something insightful that hasnt already been heard. It goes almost without saying that Jewish and pro-Israel students indeed students of all faiths, ethnicities, beliefs and opinions should feel safe to be on campus and to express their views. It should also be consensus that university leaders have a responsibility to ensure that the values of respect, tolerance, and thoughtfulness to say nothing of security are, as a priority, promoted and protected

Students, Give Zionism Its Rightful Place in Civil Discourse – The Emory Wheel

| November 22, 2019

In light of a recent op-ed in The New York Times, it is important to reflect on comments made last week on our campus. In the Times op-ed, Blake Flayton, a progressive, Jewish student at George Washington University (D.C.), discusses the ways in which he finds himself pushed to the fringes of a [progressive] movement marginalized as someone suspicious at best and oppressive at worst, due solely to his identification as a Zionist. Lets accept the facts: a significant percentage of the attendees at Thursdays Narratives Dinner were Jewish Emory students

Zionisms uneasy relationship with antisemitism – Mondoweiss

| November 22, 2019

I grew up with a deep love for Israel, the redemptive, out-of the-ashes, kibbutz-loving, feisty little country that could do no wrong, fighting for its life in a sea of hateful Arabs and Jew-haters. I learned that Jews were a people dedicated to worship and the study of Torah and this identity kept us alive during the centuries of antisemitism in Europe.

Anti-Zionism in the name of UMASS? – OneNewsNow

| November 22, 2019

Academic departments at the University of Massachusetts sparked outcry last April for sponsoring an anti-Semitic event, and now they're at it again with a similar affair. This time the UMass Resistance Studies Initiative is co-sponsoring an anti-Zionist event aimed at promoting the BDS campaign advocating boycotts against Israel. So a group of 84 pro-Israel groups has sent a letter of complaint
