The Thunder Mountain Marine Corp League Detachment 1283 will meet Tuesday, Sept. 24, at the old Cochise County Complex at Foothills and Highway 92, at 7 p.m. All Marines or interested parties may attend, contact Jim Adams at 520-803-0968 for additional information. Membership in the League is available to all active duty, reserve, retired and interested Marines and FMF Navy corpsmen. Associates interested in supporting the League are also encouraged toattend.

Thunder Mountain Republican Womens Club monthly luncheon meeting will be called to order at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Pueblo del Sol Country Club, 2770 St Andrews Drive. The program speakers will include Sarah Pacheco, Sierra Vista Unified School Districts Public Information Officer, and Kriss Hagerl, Interim School Superintendent. On Wednesday, Sept. 25 through Nov. 20, from 12:10 to 1 p.m., Cochise College Center for Lifelong Learning hosts a Brown Bag Lunch Lecture at the Sierra Vista Campus, 901 North Colombo Avenue, in Sierra Vista. These lectures are free and open to the public. On Wednesday, Sept. 25, the Center for Lifelong Learning invites you to our presentation of Friends of the San Pedro with Tess Jurek. FSPR, founded in 1987, is a mostly volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and restoration of the river through advocacy, education, and interpretation. AARP local chapter 3123 will meet Wednesday, Sept. 25, 1 p.m., at the Ethel Berger Center. This will the groups birthday potluck, bring a dish to share. For more info call378-4386.

Come visit with members of the Sierra Vista Area Gardeners Club at their fall plant sale on Thursday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will be held at the new location for the Sierra Vista Farmers Market in Veterans Memorial Park at 3105 E. Fry Blvd. There will be lots of reasonably priced native plants, perennials and house plants as well as a wide selection of complementary seed packets. Sierra Vista Elks Lodge 2065 invites the community to its annual Octoberfest Sept. 27 -28, hours from 2-11 p.m. both days. We are presenting more authentic German food as well as more of a variety of foods and desserts. Music by Fort Huachuca Army Band, starting at 2 p.m. and, The Bouncing Czechs European Band starting at 6:30 p.m. We are located 1 Elks Lane just 1 block east of Buffalo Soldier on Wilcox. The Thunder Mountain Twirlers are having a Mainstream Square Dance on Friday, Sept. 27 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., with a plus tip at the end of the evening. Our caller will be Rick Gittelman, with rounds by Lisa Wall. Review starts at 6:45 p.m., for anyone who needs or wants a little extra practice. American Legion Post 52, will host a steak fry dinner Friday Sept. 27 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for $9, including all the fixins.
