Journey Stories, the Smithsonian Institutions highly acclaimed traveling exhibition accounting citizens travels to America, is coming to Harrison County this month.

Theyre bringing it to six cities in Texas; were one of the six, said Janet Cook, executive director of the Harrison County Historical Museum.

The Institution called last March, asking if the museum would like to be one of the featured sites to host the exhibit.

We just said yes, and well figure out the details later, Cook said.

Marshall is first on the list to host the exhibit. The cities of Bryan, Victoria, Edinburg, Alpine and Claude will follow.

Reports from Smithsonian officials are that the exhibit is coming to Texas through a partnership between the Texas State Historical Association and the Smithsonians Main Street program, which brings high quality cultural programs to underserved rural citizens. The Harrison County Historical Museum is partnering up with the Weisman Cooperative to display the massive exhibit, which is about 700 square feet.

Theyll let us put it on their top floor, Cook said of the Weisman.

The monstrous-sized exhibit will include free standing panels, several artifacts and personal stories and images from the Smithsonian collection.

Its really rare for most of us that live far from Washington, D.C., she said of the opportunity to view the collection, which is housed at the Smithsonian in D.C.

The exhibit will also feature audio stations, interactive components and a digital slide show to enjoy.
