Posted By on June 6, 2013

PJ Library, a popular program that brings Jewish childrens books into the homes of 3,000 children in Greater Boston, is celebrating its fifth birthday. Families are invited to join the free party with bouncy houses, face painting, crafts, games, dancing, music with a DJ, and a birthday concert by Josh and the Jamtones.

PJ Library, a program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, is a gift to children locally from ages birth to 5 from the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston with generous support from Combined Jewish Philanthropies and Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston.

WHEN: Sunday, June 9, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

WHERE: Leventhal-Sidman JCC West Lawn, 333 Nahanton St., Newton

Pre-registration is required and will automatically enroll families to win prizes. Visit pjlibrary@jccgb.org or call 617-558-6587 for more information. In case of inclement weather, the event will move indoors with limited availability.

Started in 2005, PJ Library (PJ is for pajamas) mails more than 110,000 Jewish childrens books as gifts to children and their families in 185 North American communities each month. By years end, it is expected that PJ Library will mail its 5 millionth book.

PJ Library was envisioned by Jewish philanthropist Harold Grinspoon as a program that could bring pajama-clad children together with their parents each night to read beautiful books about Jewish traditions, stories, and holidays. Sharing these special bedtime moments gives parents the opportunity to transmit the joys of the Jewish heritage to the next generation. The 83-year-old Grinspoon was inspired by Dolly Partons Imagination Library, an international literacy program.
