Beginning in the 10th century, Jewish mystics and philosophers wrote commentaries on Sefer Yetzirah, a book about the secrets of creation probably written around the third century. At the same time, Jewish mystics compiled works of heikhalot literature, an early corpus of texts focused on mystical ascents to heaven. These endeavors formed the bridge between early Jewish mysticism and its medieval golden era.
Two new mystical movements emerged in the 12th century. The Hasidei Ashkenaz (the pious ones of Germany) collected previously written mystical texts and wrote treatises on the supernatural, including astrology and demonology. For the most part, the Hasidei Ashkenaz were associated with a single family, the Kalonymus family.
Meanwhile, kabbalah, the medieval mystical tradition whose practitioners attempted to understand, affect, and communicate with the divine, was being developed in Provence and Northern Spain. Sefer ha-Bahir, a book of unknown authorship,is the most important early kabbalistic work. This book, written in the form of traditional midrashimrabbinic dialogues and commentaries on the biblical textintroduces a revised theory of the sefirot, the ten attributes of God first mentioned in Sefer Yetzirah. In kabbalah, God as Godthe Ein Sof or the Infinitecannot be comprehended by humans. God can only be understood as He reveals himself in the sefirot. The sefirot are dynamic; they interact with each other and can be affected by humans. Indeed, much of the Kabbalah is an attempt to influence and fix the sefirot.
The doctrine of the sefirot reached its fullest articulation in the Zohar, a mystical commentary on the Torah. The Zohar interprets the Torah symbolically in an attempt to extract secrets about the divine realm. It is also structured like a midrash, is written in Aramaic, and was long attributed to the 2nd-century sage Shimon bar Yohai. The Zohar is now believed to be the work of the 13th-century Spanish Jewish mystic Moses de Leon, or as recent scholars have suggested, the work of a group of mystics including Moses de Leon.

The kabbalah of the Zohar is a form of theosophic kabbalah, as it aims at initiating change within God. The kabbalah of Abraham Abulafia (1240-1291), on the other hand, is internally directed. It aims at affecting change within the mystic himself. Abulafia used chanting, meditation, and music to help him achieve this mystical experience. Like the theosophic kabbalists, Abulafia used the Torah to reach his mystical goals, but instead of interpreting the text of the Torah, he deconstructed its words and meditated on its letters. Abulafia aimed at achieving nothing less than prophecy, and he believed that this could be attained by taking apart Hebrew words and reorganizing them as divine names.
After the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492, the center of Jewish mysticism moved to the Palestinian city of Safed. There, Moses Cordevero (1522-1570) wrote a definitive commentary on the Zohar, and other important mystics, like the great halakhist Joseph Caro (1488-1575), taught and wrote. Isaac Luria (1534-1572) was the greatest of the Safed kabbalists. His most important theological innovation was his theory of creation. According to Luria, the creation of the world was a complicated, delicate activity that required a transformation of the divine being. Before the world was created, God occupied every inch of the universe. In order to make room for a world, God needed to contract, a process Luria called tzimtzum. After this contraction, God directed divine light into vessels, but the vessels couldnt contain the light, and they broke, letting evil and imperfection into the world. The purpose of human history is tikkun, fixing the broken vessels. This is achieved by fulfilling the commandments of the Torah.
Hasidism emerged in the middle of the 18th century. The movement is traced to Israel ben Eliezer, known as the Baal Shem Tov (1700-1760)usually translated as Master of the Good Namean itinerant teacher and healer who taught that everyone, even the uneducated masses, can have personal interaction with the divine. The ultimate value of Hasidism is devekut, attachment to God.
Dov Baer, the Maggid (Preacher) of Mezeritch, succeeded the Baal Shem Tov as the leader of Hasidism. Eventually, however, Hasidism divided into several branches, often named for the geographic location where they took root. Each Hasidic sect has a leader, known as a rebbe or tzaddik, who serves as something of a facilitator, enabling the relationship between his constituents and God. The role of the rebbe often passes from father to son.
Initially, Hasidism was fiercely opposed by traditional Jewish authorities. Ironically, many Jews now perceive Hasidim (as members of the various Hasidic sects are known) as embodying the most traditional form of Judaism.

Anecdotal reports circulating via email and social media claim fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger made racist statements during an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show. Despite denials by both Hilfiger and Winfrey, the false rumor continues to spread.
Description: Rumor / Urban legend Circulating since: 1996 Status: False (see details below)
Example #1: Forwarded email text contributed by a reader in December 1998:
Subject: FWD: Tommy Hilfiger hates us...
Did you see the recent Oprah Winfrey show on which Tommy Hilfiger was a guest? Oprah asked Hilfiger if his alleged statements about people of color were true - he's been accused of saying things such as "If I had known that African-Americans, Hispanics and Asians would buy my clothes, I would not have made them so nice," and "I wish those people would not buy my clothes - they were made for upper-class whites." What did he say when Oprah asked him if he said these things? He said "Yes." Oprah immediately asked Hilfiger to leave her show.
Now, let's give Hilfiger what he's asked for - let's not buy his clothes. Boycott! Please - pass this message along.
Example #2 (Warning: offensive language!): Forwarded email text contributed by a reader in December 1998:
Subject: Did you see this show - Nov. 28th.
For those who missed the Oprah Winfrey show where she interviewed the fashion designer, he made a VERY RACIST remark regarding the people that purchase his clothing line... Summed up, he basically said that if he had known that so many chinamen and niggers were going to buy his clothes, he never would have made it so nice....... After which, Oprah kindly asked him to leave. Now that we all know that he is a BIG TIME RACIST, my suggestion is that we and all of our friends should boycott the TOMMY HILFIGER line. I don't see any point in supporting someone who has such a narrow mind...
What a jerk this guy is! Yeah, if it weren't for us CHINAMEN and NIGGERS, does he think he can be where he is today?????
Please forward this to everyone you know, he really does not deserve anyone's support at all.
Analysis: Ladies and gentlemen, the topic of this week's sermon is the Ninth Commandment of Moses: "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."
Allow me to cast the first stone.
A whole lot of nice, earnest folks who surely don't consider themselves liars are using the Internet to spread a false and libelous rumor about fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger. It comes to them in the form of a forwarded email or a shared social media post. They read it, they either believe it to be true or don't care if it's true, and they pass it on to friends, associates and people they hardly even know with the click of a mouse button.
Knowingly or not, each one of these people becomes a link in a growing chain of lies. Scurrilous, hurtful lies. We know they are lies because the parties involved have issued repeated denials.
Oprah Winfrey addressed the rumor personally during a show broadcast in 1999, summarized on her website as follows:
Winfrey's exact words were quoted on Tommy Hilfiger's Website:
Hilfiger, also quoted on his own website, stated the following:
Further putting the lie to this misbegotten rumor are the results of an independent investigation conducted in 2001 by the Anti-Defamation League, which summarized its findings in a letter to Tommy Hilfiger:
The Anti-Defamation League has received recurring inquiries regarding a number of defamatory rumors that have been spread on the Internet and by word-of-mouth in recent years about you and your company. Based upon our investigation, it is apparent to us that you never made the statements that attribute racist remarks to you. In some cases, the rumor alleges that you appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show and made racist remarks, causing a supposedly irate Oprah to ask you to leave. We have concluded that these rumors are completely false, and it is apparent that you never made the statements attributed to you, nor did you appear on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Friends, all of this information is readily available on the Internet. Look it up. There is no excuse for perpetuating this false rumor, for bearing false witness against a neighbor, when the truth is only a few links away.
Repent! Check the facts before you share!
Update: On May 2, 2007 Tommy Hilfiger actually did appear on the Oprah Winfrey Show for the first and only time, mind you to put an end to this scurrilous rumor. View the video!
Poll: Did you believe this rumor about Tommy Hilfiger when you first heard it? 1) Yes. 2) No. 3) I wasn't sure.

Appointed by President Woodrow Wilson to the Supreme Court on January 28, 1916, Louis Brandeis was already nationally known for his progressive views. Due at these views and ethnicity, his appointment aroused a storm of protest among large segments of the nations legal establishment. None the less, he was confirmed and took the oath on June 5, 1916. His name first became nationally known with the publication in 1914 of his book Other Peoples Money and How the Bankers Use It, which critiqued corporate power in the early 20th century
Hebrew Orphan Asylum, Baltimore, Maryland The history of the Hebrew Orphan Asylum site spans nearly 200 years from its beginning in 1815 as Calverton, the country home of Baltimore banker Dennis Smith. An 1874 fire destroyed the Calverton mansion, and led to the construction of the present building, which was specifically designed as an orphanage and was dedicated in 1876.
Chevra Bnai Yisroel Synagogue, Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie County, Iowa Designed by local architect, J. Chris Jensen, the Chevra Bnai Yisroel Synagogue reflects the congregations orthodox origins in its original design, with later remodeling reflecting the subsequent changes in the congregations religious outlook and traditions. The congregation associated with the Chevra Bnai Yisroel Synagogue in Council Bluffs, Iowa, was originally affiliated with Orthodox Judaism, later with Conservative Judaism, and most recently with Reconstuctionalist Judaism.
Jewish Shelter Home, Multnomah County, Oregon The Shelter Home provided the Jewish immigrant district a certain continuity and support the Shelter Home allowed Jewish children of disrupted family backgrounds a Jewish upbringing which they quite possibly would have missed had they been placed in a state-operated orphanage. In the course of a year, 18 to 20 children would pass through the house; each staying whatever time was necessary. This process was extremely important to the maintenance of Jewish culture and society in South Portland.
Park Circle Historic District (Baltimore, MD) Park Circle Historic District in Baltimore, Maryland was an early suburban Jewish neighborhood developed when the children of Eastern European immigrants moved from East Baltimore to the city's northwest outskirts, setting the pattern for further expansion of Baltimore's Jewish community to the northwest.
Beth Sholom Synagogue (Elkins Park, PA) was one of a handful of Wright buildings singled out in 1959 by the American institute of Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation
Mill House (Orange County, NY) In 1710, Luis Moses Gomez, the son of a well-to-do Jewish immigrant merchant, and a member of one of the foremost Jewish families in colonial New York, began to purchase land in Ulster and Orange Counties, finally acquiring about 2500 acres. On this tract of land Gomez constructed a stone house, the original section of the present Mill House, to accommodate his fur trading business with the American Indians.
Albert Einstein House (Princeton, New Jersey): Albert Einstein, considered the greatest physicist of all time and named in 1999 Time Magazines Person of the Century, was born to Jewish parents in Ulm, Germany in 1879. Although most famous for his theory of relativity (and specifically mass-energy equivalence, E=mc), he was also known as an international advocate of peace, human rights and an early supporter of a homeland for the Jewish people.
Historic Synagogues of Connecticut: In 1818 a constitutional convention in Connecticut resulted in the disestablishment of the Congregational Church as a tax-supported institution. At this time less than a dozen people of the Jewish faith were known to live in Connecticut. Jewish public worship was not permitted in Connecticut until 1843.

Tidbits From The Talmud
I have read the rebuttals to these tidbits from the Talmudists and found them completely lacking in credibility. After all, it is required of them to lie...so why expect the truth? Why do they attack those online who have websites exposing the Talmud if it weren't true? Actions speak louder than words. They have attacked me for years for exposing the Talmud...
Whoever disobeys a Rabbi deserves death...Erubin 21b. Whosoever disobeys the rabbis deserves death and will be punished by being boiled in hot excrement in hell.
Moed Kattan 17a . If a Jew is tempted to do evil he should go to a city where he is not known and do the evil there.
Non-Jews are Not Human Baba Mezia 114a-114b. Only Jews are human ("Only ye are designated men").
Also see Kerithoth 6b under the sub-head, "Oil of Anointing" and Berakoth 58a in which Gentile women are designated animals ("she-asses").
Jews are Divine, Sanhedrin 58b. If a heathen (Gentile) hits a Jew, the Gentile must be killed. Hitting a Jew is the same as hitting God.
O.K. to Cheat Non-Jews, Sanhedrin 57a . A Jew need not pay a Gentile ("Cuthean") the wages owed him for work.
Jews Have Superior Legal Status, Baba Kamma 37b. "If an ox of an Israelite gores an ox of a Canaanite there is no liability; but if an ox of a Canaanite gores an ox of an Israelite...the payment is to be in full."
Jews May Steal from Non-Jews, Baba Mezia 24a . If a Jew finds an object lost by a Gentile ("heathen") it does not have to be returned. (Affirmed also in Baba Kamma 113b).
Sanhedrin 76a . God will not spare a Jew who "marries his daughter to an old man or takes a wife for his infant son or returns a lost article to a Cuthean..."
Jews May Rob and Kill Non-Jews, Sanhedrin 57a . When a Jew murders a Gentile ("Cuthean"), there will be no death penalty. What a Jew steals from a Gentile he may keep.
Baba Kamma 37b. Gentiles are outside the protection of the law and God has "exposed their money to Israel."
Jews May Lie to Non-Jews, Baba Kamma 113a. Jews may use lies ("subterfuges") to circumvent a Gentile.
Non-Jewish Children Sub-Human, Yebamoth 98a. All Gentile children are animals.
Abodah Zarah 36b . Gentile girls are in a state of niddah (filth) from birth.
Abodah Zarah 22a-22b . Gentiles prefer sex with cows.
Abodah Zarah 67b . "The vessels of Gentiles, do they not impart a worsened flavor to the food cooked in them?"
Insults Against Mary, Sanhedrin 106a . Says Jesus' mother was a whore: "She who was the descendant of princes and governors played the harlot with carpenters." Also in footnote #2 to Shabbath 104b it is stated that in the "uncensored" text of the Talmud it is written that Jesus mother, "Miriam the hairdresser," had sex with many men.
Gloats over Christ Dying Young, A passage from Sanhedrin 106 gloats over the early age at which Jesus died: "Hast thou heard how old Balaam (Jesus) was?--He replied: It is not actually stated but since it is written, Bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days it follows that he was thirty-three or thirty-four years old."
Says Jesus was a Sorcerer, Sanhedrin 43a . Says Jesus ("Yeshu" and in footnote #6, Yeshu "the Nazarene") was executed because he practiced sorcery.
Horrible Blasphemy of Jesus, Gittin 57a . Says Jesus ( see footnote #4) is being boiled in "hot excrement."
Sanhedrin 43a . Jesus deserved execution: "On the eve of the Passover, Yeshu was hanged...Do you suppose that he was one for whom a defense could be made? Was he not a Mesith (enticer)?"
Attacks Christians and their Books, Rosh Hashanah 17a . Christians ("minim") and others who reject the Talmud will go to hell and be punished there for all generations (see footnote #11 for the definition of minim).
Sanhedrin 90a.Those who read the New Testament ("uncanonical books," see footnote #9) will have no portion in the world to come.
Shabbath 116a (p. 569). Jews must destroy the books of the Christians, i.e. the New Testament.
Israel Shahak reports that the Zionists burned hundreds of New Testament books in Occupied Palestine on March 23, 1980 (cf. Jewish History, Jewish Religion, p. 21).
Sick and Insane Teachings, Gittin 69a . To heal his flesh a Jew should take dust that lies within the shadow of an outdoor toilet, mix it with honey and eat it.
Shabbath 41a. The law regulating the rule for how to urinate in a holy way is given.

Sanhedrin 54b . A Jew may have sex with a child as long as the child is less than nine years old.
Kethuboth 11b . "When a grown-up man has intercourse with a little girl it is nothing."
Yebamoth 59b . A woman who had intercourse with a beast is eligible to marry a Jewish priest. A woman who has sex with a demon is also eligible to marry a Jewish priest.
Abodah Zarah 17a. States that there is not a whore in the world that Rabbi Eleazar has not had sex with.
Hagigah 27a . States that no rabbi can ever go to hell.
Baba Mezia 59b. A rabbi debates God and defeats Him. God admits the rabbi won the debate.
Gittin 70a . The Rabbis taught: "On coming from a privy (outdoor toilet) a man should not have sexual intercourse till he has waited long enough to walk half a mile, because the demon of the privy is with him for that time; if he does, his children will be epileptic."
Sanhedrin 59a: "Murdering Goyim is like killing a wild animal."

" Yebhamoth 11b: "Sexual intercourse with a little girl is permitted if she is of three years of age.
" Sanhedrin 105ab: "Jesus fornicated with his jackass.
" Gittin 57a: "Jesus is in hell and is being punished by being boiled in semen. Christians are boiled in dung.
" Schabouth Hag. 6b: "Jews may swear falsely by use of subterfuge wording.
" Zohar 1,160a: "Jews must always try to deceive Christians." Hilkkoth Akum Z1: "Do not save Goyim (Gentiles) in danger of death.
" Choschen Ham 388, 15: "If it be proven that someone has given the money of israelites to the Goyim, a way must be found after prudent consideration to wipe him off the face of this earth."
Choschen Ham 266, 1: "A Jew may keep anything he finds which belongs to the Akum (Gentile). For he who returns lost property (to Gentiles) sins against the law by increasing the power of the transgressors of the law. It is praiseworthy, however, to return lost property if it is done to honor the name of God, namely if by so doing Christians will praise the Jews and look upon them as honorable people."
There are many different branches of Judaism today, it's almost like the numerous denominations of the Pentecostals..but a lot of them, if not most, have rejected Jesus as the Messiah..and so look for His coming arrival...They never understood that one Messiah would play two different roles. What we understand as His first and Second coming....this is an excerpt from http://members.aol.com/LazerA/moshiach.htm to just show you their basic reasoning and modern day beliefs...
If you're listening to "Talmudic Scholars" you may as well just make a phone call to Hell and talk to Lucifer himself.
Most Jews today reject Yahushua as the Messiah......
The word moshiach means anointed. It is commonly translated as messiah. According to modern day Jews the Moshiach will be a very righteous man from the family of King David with a total commitment to the Torah. He will be anointed as king of the Jewish people. He will reestablish the dynasty of King David, rebuild the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, and gather together all the Jews from throughout the world to the land of Israel directing all of them to properly observe all of HaShem's laws. He will reestablish the laws of a Jewish Kingdom, including the sacrificial service and other practices. Finally, he will perfect the world, leading all humanity to serve HaShem in unity. The entire world will realize that HaShem is the only God and they will all worship HaShem together. The world will be completely at peace.
They fail to realize that the prophets of old prophesied One Messiah in two different roles, in other words, the First and Second Coming....
While the Jews wait for His first coming, those who recognize He already came, await for His Second Coming.
Modern day Jews reject the New Testament and accept the Talmud as the authoritative Word of God.
Get out of the Deceptions and Lies! Yahushua Was and IS the Messiah! Accept Him today and stop living without His redemption and salvation! He has already redeemed you now just accept it!
Accept Yahushua as your Moshiach now and receive eternal life in Heaven with Him

In 2006, President George W. Bush officially established May as Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) after a campaign led by Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz and with the co-sponsorship of the late Senator Arlen Specter. Learn more about the creation of JAHM in This Week in History.
In the spring of 2010, when ESL teacher Deborah Ross attended the first ever White House reception for Jewish American Heritage Month, she found herself in the company of many Jewish Americans, all of whom had been invited to attend because of their contributions to American life. She wondered how they would answer the question: How has being Jewish affected your life and career? Is that why you are here?
She undertook to explore these questions in a series of hour-long interviews with Jewish women living in the Washington, D.C. area. Each of them had been an active member of the community a physician in a neighborhood clinic, a pioneer broadcaster, a food writer, a womans rights lawyer, a filmmaker, a rabbi, an artist, an advocate for womens health. JWA has created an online exhibit based on her interviews to commemorate Jewish American Heritage Month.
Follow "This Day of Jewish American Heritage" to connect every day in May to stories of American Jewish women.
We have created a special badge that can be used to display each day's item on your webpage. You can cut and paste the necessary code from the JAHM Badge Page.

By no means all American Jews backed the Civil Rights Movement, but Jewish women and men did make up a large percentage of those white Americans who participated actively in rallies, sit-ins, marches, voter registration drives, and Freedom Rides. As they stood shoulder to shoulder with African Americans, they were strengthened by the same freedom songs. Use a letter of a Jewish civil rights activist and a selection of freedom songs to explore how this music, based in the African American church, helped bridge racial and religious boundaries and build a sense of community.
This set of "Go & Learn" lesson plans features an editorial from the April 1897 issue ofThe American Jewess exploring the relationship between two holidays that celebrate freedomPassover and the 4th of July. The editor, Rosa Sonneschein, asks what it means for Jews to celebrate Passover in the context of American religious and national freedom.
These lessons for youth, adults, and family groups use a letter from Rebecca Samuel, an immigrant from Germany who describes her life in Virginia in the late 1700s, as the basis for interactive sessions on Jewish immigration.

May, 2016 is Jewish-American Heritage Month 2016. Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) is an annual recognition and celebration of Jewish American achievements in and contributions to the United States of America.

Jewish American Heritage Month is indeed in May.
Asian Pacific Heritage Month is also in May, as you stated.
What's more, May is also Haitian Heritage Month.
That is to be expected with so many cultures in the world. But if you think May is crowded, then check out October:
Filipino American History Month
Italian-American Heritage Month
Polish American Heritage Month
National German Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15)
National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15)
Diversity Awareness Month
Did you know that May is Jewish American heritage month?
No. Didn't know.
Thanks.
Why is it that we have all these commemorative months...?
This list is a reflection of some groups that have been historically marginalized, and there was a concerted political attempt to raise awareness about these people. Or, at the very least there was a dedicated group or organization that lobbied - effectively enough - to have their groups recognized with an official "month." For example, Scandinavians weren't necessarily marginalized, but descendant groups and heritage clubs remain pretty popular in this community.
But, you call out a group that you say "made America" and point to the list as those that "didn't"...which is silly. A lot of groups had a hand in creating this country. And I would argue that Japanese immigrants probably had less influence over the political and social structure of the US than just about every other group listed here. (I'm not putting them down, just stating a cultural and demographic fact).
And by the way, you left off Asian and Pacific American Heritage month, which would include Chinese and Japanese. And October 6 is German Heritage Day and you've also got Oktoberfest. There are also various locally observed Polish American Heritage days and months in different locations and states across the country.
And as far as the English go, the reality is this country was founded on rebelling British colonists severing ties to their motherland and kicking the redcoats out and eschewing any label of being "English" in favor of fostering a sense of separate "American" identity. And it is no doubt a commemoration enough that we are talking on a forum in English. If there was a population of English-Americans that had a sense of strong cultural identity as "English" then there would probably be more interest in this heritage. The reality is there isn't such a group. I've never heard Americans speak of their "English" identity and culture. personally. Have you?
