The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on the Federal Government to ensure the conduct of a transparent investigation into the tragic building collapse at the Synagogue Church of All Nations which resulted in the death of about 115 worshippers.
The NLC, in a statement by its Head of Media, Mr. Benson Upah, said only a thorough probe of the incident would avail Nigerians and other concerned people the opportunity of knowing what actually happened at the Lagos church.
Upah explained that the probe was necessary because the family members of those who died in the collapsed guest house should know the truth about the incident.
He added that such a probe would prevent similar incidents in the future.
According to him, if the probe is not conducted thoroughly, it can affect the image of the country.
He said, The collapse of the building belonging to the Synagogue Church of All Nations Lagos which left 115 dead is a familiar but painful and avoidable tragedy.
It is an occurrence Nigeria can ill-afford. Accordingly, we at the Nigeria Labour Congress call for a professional and transparent probe capable of laying bare all the facts.
By so doing, we will not only be putting to rest all the speculations, we will be preventing similar tragedies waiting to happen.

The Lagos State Government has set up acoronersinquest for the purpose of investigating the cause of the September 12 Synagogue Church of All Nations building collapse.
This was made known in a statement credited to the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye.
According to the statement, Ipaye had instigated the coroners inquest pursuant to Section 15 of the Lagos State Coroners System Law No. 7 of 2007.
The coroner of inquest, headed by Magistrate O. A. Komolafe, has been charged with the duty of of establishing the cause of the collapse of synagogues six-storey building that killed no fewer than 115 persons.
Ipaye who spelt out the responsibility of the coroner, said its final submission may necessitate the institution of a criminal charge.
The commissioner was quoted to have said, The law requires the verdict of a coroner, as certified in writing, to be forwarded to the State Attorney General and such verdict may form the basis of criminal prosecutions depending on the evidence collected.
The coroner in this case is Magistrate O. A. Komolafe, who also sat as coroner in the Dana Air Crash case. He is expected to announce his sitting or visitation schedules and other details and to hold the inquest at the premises of the High Court of Lagos State, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja.
In doing this, he (Komolafe) has all the powers of a magistrate to summon and compel the attendance of witnesses, including medical examiners, and require them to give evidence, produce documents or present other relevant materials.
