Despite the big, outlandish rap-bro caricatures its three founders put forward, Rap Genius envisions itself the "Talmud for the Internet," the foremost annotation platform of Western civilization. And aside from bombing Google with spammy search engine tactics (for which the service was swiftly punished) the Rap Genius guys have mostly managed to avoid negative press lately--which, all things considered, is a good thing for a company looking to one day become a serious knowledge resource to rival the likes of Wikipedia.
But Rap Genius was back in the news this weekend.
When Elliot Rodger went on a shooting and stabbing spree in a neighborhood near UC Santa Barbara on Friday night, killing at least six people, the mentally unstable 22-year-old's bizarre, misogyny-riddled manifesto was soon pasted to News Genius, one of several sub-sites under the Rap Genius umbrella. As first spotted by Valleywag, Rap Genius cofounder Mahbod Moghadam--the one who once told Mark Zuckerberg to "suck his d*ck" and, more recently, had a brain tumor removed--left his own series of awful, misogynist annotations on Rodger's screed.
At one point, Moghadam facetiously labeled one sentence written by the killer "beautifully written"; in another section--in which Rodger talks about becoming angry after hearing his sister having sex with her boyfriend--Moghadam wrote, "MY GUESS: his sister is smokin hot."
On Monday, it was announced that Moghadam had resigned from Rap Genius entirely, which Re/code reports was a decision made by cofounder and CEO Tom Lehman. Per a statement published by Lehman: "Mahbod Moghadam, one of my co-founders, annotated the piece with annotations that not only didn't attempt to enhance anyones understanding of the text, but went beyond that into gleeful insensitivity and misogyny."
Lehman continued, "I cannot let him compromise the Rap Genius mission--a mission that remains almost as delicate and inchoate as it was when we three founders decided to devote our lives to it almost 5 years ago."
You can read Lehman's statement in full here. On Sunday, before his removal from the company was announced publicly, Moghadam tweeted this: "I want to apologize to everyone. I need to hear these criticisms, reflect for real, and work on becoming a better person."
His dismissal seems to clearly illustrate that the other Genius bros (and presumably its investors, most notably legendary firm Andreessen Horowitz, which famously invested $15 million in 2012) are serious about ensuring that Rap Genius reaches its full potential.
Moghadam has something of a reputation for speaking before thinking. In 2013, during a particularly rambling interview with Fast Company, the cofounder claimed that it was divinely ordained that Rap Genius would one day become one of the largest websites in the world. "Jesus came down, he told us wassup," said Moghadam, "and he said this is going to be the biggest site--the Facebook of love." While most of Rap Genius users could probably care less about its founders's antics, annotating a heartbreaking story with jokes a fourth-grader might make strikes us as anything but loving.

Earlier this weekend, Rap Genius the lyrics annotation site that aspires to be an Internet Talmud posted the disturbing manifesto of UCSB shooter Elliot Rodger. On Sunday, Gawker noted that one of Rap Genius's three Yale-educated founders, Mahbod Moghadam, had been leaving comments on passages of Rodger's 141-page memoir/terrifying rant. The most generous thing one could say about Moghadam's observations is that they were not insightful.
Here are some of Moghadam's weirder annotations:
Later in the day, Moghadam sent Valleywag an e-mail in which he attempted to explain the reasoning behind his comments. "I was fascinated by the fact that a text was associated with such a heartbreaking crime, especially since Elliot is talking about my neighborhood growing up," he wrote. "I got carried away with making the annotations and making any comment about his sister was in horrible taste, thankfully the rap genius community edits out my poor judgement, I am very sorry for writing it."
Now, Re/Code reports that Moghadam, who has caused some problems for the well-funded start-up in the past, has resigned. "Yesterday the Rap Genius community annotated Elliot Rodgers manifesto on News Genius. Because this tragedy is still so raw, there was internal debate as to whether this document belonged on the site at all. Ultimately we decided that it was worthy of close reading understanding the psychology of people who do horrible things can help us to better understand our society and ourselves," said one of Rap Genius's other founders, Tom Lehman, in a statement posted to the site. After noting that most of the annotations "were at least attempting a close reading," Lehman acknowledged that his friend and partner "didn't attempt to enhance anyones understanding of the text" and "went beyond that into gleeful insensitivity and misogyny."
Lehman explained continued, "Were Mahbod's annotations posted by a new Rap Genius user, it would be up to our community leaders, who set the tone of the site and our approach to annotation, to delete them and explain to the new user why they were unacceptable. Were Mahbod's annotations posted by a Rap Genius moderator, that person would cease to be an effective community leader and would have to step down. And Mahbod, our original community leader, is no exception. In light of this, Mahbod has resigned both in his capacity as an employee of the company, and as a member of our board of directors, effective immediately."
Re/Code added that "someone close to the situation" said that Moghadam had, in fact, been "asked to leave the company," in part because of "pressure from investors," which shouldn't strike anyone as a major surprise. Some aspects of Rodger's story are certainly sad, but sympathizing with him just hours after he murdered six college students isn't a good look.

Savelugu School for Deaf receives support from SCOAN Sunday 25th May , 2014 12:48 pm deaf
Prophet T.B Joshuas Synagogue Church of all Nations is to connect pipelines from the main Savelugu water treatment plant to the Savelugu School for the Deaf in the Northern Region.
The project estimated at the cost of GH30, 000 is expected to be constructed within one week.
The churchs decision is informed by the unwholesome water students and staff of the school drink and use for other domestic purposes.
This came to light on Saturday May 24, 2014 when the church donated a large consignment of assorted food items, gallons of oil and other valuables worth GHC7, 000 to the school.
Leader of the delegation, Ghanaian High Court Judge, His Lordship Justice John Ajet- Nassam told Citi News that the founder and General Overseer of the Synagogue Church of all Nations, Prophet T.B Joshua was touched by media reports that final year students of the Savelugu School for the Deaf were sent home because there was no food to feed them.
He said, The donation was made on behalf of the Founder, Leader and General Overseer of the Synagogue Church of all Nations headquartered in Nigeria, Prophet T.B Joshua.
He continued saying, He and the Emmanuel TV partners heard about the plight of the Savelugu School for the Deaf and the information was that they dont have a grain of rice so the students are at home but they are the final year students there; so having this report, Prophet T.B Joshua immediately organized some bags of rice and oil to be presented to the school.
